Advanced Placement (AP) Exams Data Report

Background

The Advanced Placement (AP) exams are standardized exams owned and published by the College Board, a non-profit organization in the United States, and are designed to measure how well students have mastered specific content. Students that receive qualifying AP scores may be granted credit, advanced placement, or both, in colleges across the United States.

A data sharing agreement between the CDE and the College Board has allowed the CDE to use the data for two purposes:

1. Match AP tests to California public schools and produce an AP Report for each school, district, county, and the state. This report reflects the number of students who earned a specific exam score (i.e., scores 1 through 5).
   
   
2. Match AP test takers to the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) with the purpose of using the linked results within the state’s accountability system. Specifically, the AP data is calculated and reported within the College/Career Indicator (CCI) on the California School Dashboard (Dashboard).

Effective February 2022, following a review of current CDE and local educational agency business needs with respect to the AP data, the CDE has discontinued the creation and publication of the AP Report and supporting downloadable files, but will continue to publish the AP exam data through the CCI Additional Report.
