Funding for this program is unrestricted pursuant to SBX3 4 (Chapter 12, Statutes of 2009), enacted February 2009. For additional information, please refer to the Action on 2008 and 2009 Budget Acts Web page.
Local educational agencies are eligible for reimbursement of costs associated with requirements related to oral health assessments for public school students enrolled in kindergarten (or first grade if student was not previously enrolled in public school kindergarten). The students must present proof by May 31 of having received an oral health assessment by a licensed dentist or other licensed or registered dental health professional within 12 months of enrollment.

| Required Eligibility Criteria |
Public schools must (1) notify parents or legal guardians of the assessment requirement; (2) collect proper assessment forms from parents; and (3) submit completed forms to local school district by May 31 of each year. Districts must submit a report with specified information, including compliance rates, to their county office of education by December 31 of each year. County offices of education must maintain the data and release it upon request. |
