Funding Description

The SIG provides funding to help Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) address the needs of schools in improvement, corrective action, and restructuring to improve student achievement. In conjunction with funds reserved under Section 1003(a), SIGs are to be used to leverage change and improve technical assistance under sections 1116 and 1117 of Title I, Part A of the ESEA through LEAs targeting activities towards measurable outcomes as described on this page. Expected results from the use of these funds include improving student proficiency, increasing the numbers of schools that make adequate yearly progress, using data to inform decisions, and creating a system of continuous feedback and improvement.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria LEAs with schools identified as being among the 5 percent of persistently lowest-achieving schools are eligible to apply for this funding. The remaining unserved Tier I and Tier II schools from the FY 2009 SIG competition will be eligible for FY 2010 SIG funding.
