Education Jobs Fund

Funding Description

The Education Jobs (Ed Jobs) program, a component of the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act of 2010 (PL 111-226), provides $1.2 billion to California to be used to save or create an estimated 16,500 kindergarten through grade twelve (K12) jobs for the 201011 school year. Jobs funded under this program include those that provide educational and related services for early childhood, elementary and secondary education.

Required Eligibility Criteria School districts, county offices of education and direct funded charter schools will receive Ed Jobs funding in an amount equal to the proportion of the revenue limit amount calculated for the 2010-11 fiscal year pursuant to Senate Bill 847 (Chapter 220, Statutes of 2010)
Other Eligibility Considerations Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) that applied for a State Fiscal Stabilization Fund (SFSF) grant were automatically eligible for an Ed Jobs Fund grant. LEAs that did not apply for a SFSF grant (including new direct funded charter schools or charter schools that changed fund type from local to direct since 2008-09) were allowed to apply for Ed Jobs Funds by completing the SFSF application by June 20, 2011.

Other LEAs must use Ed Jobs Funds only for school level compensation and benefits and other expenses, such as support services, necessary to retain existing employees, to recall or rehire former employees, and to hire new employees, in order to provide early childhood, elementary, or secondary educational and related services. Ed Jobs Funds are available for obligation through September 30, 2012. LEAs may not use Ed Jobs Funds prior to August 10, 2010, the date of enactment of the Act.

Ed Jobs funding is made available for appropriation over two state fiscal year budget authorities; $1,199,906,585 is available in 2010-11 and $17,747,529 is available in 2011-12.
