Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Local Assistance Entitlements


Funding Description

The Local Agency Entitlements, IDEA, Special Education funds are specifically allocated for special education and services to children with disabilities ages five through twenty-one.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria To receive funds, a local educational agency (LEA) must submit a local plan to the state educational agency that contains assurances that are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations.
Other Eligibility Considerations LEAs must account for these funds as expenditures for pupils with an individualized education plan (IEP) and for the provision of the special education and related services required by students with disabilities in order to benefit from a public education.

Allocation Formula Funding is based on a federal three-part formula: December 1999 California Special Education Management Information System (CASEMIS) pupil count, ages six through twenty-one years, and identified on an Individualized Education Program (IEP); 2011 K-12 enrollment (Public and Private); and 2011 K-12 poverty (Free and Reduced Meal Counts).
