Funding Description

The Health Science Pathway Program is intended to build the capacity of quality Health Science Pathway Programs statewide. This project is an effort to prepare an adequate number of qualified workers to meet the critical worker shortages in the health-care industry. This project will provide funds to: (1) attend the Health Science Educators' Institute with a team of dedicated stakeholders representing grades seven through fourteen, and (2) select up to five health science pathway components for either development or enhancement of pathway.

Required Eligibility Criteria Grant funds may be used to either establish a new Health Science Pathway Program or to enhance an existing Health Science Pathway Program. Successful grantees will be expected to develop a standards-based curriculum, to develop a coherent sequence of courses, and to provide health science content and context inclusive of grades seven through fourteen. Grant funds must not be used to maintain existing programs. Successful grantees will also be expected to attend a health science curriculum conference.

Allocation Formula Each grantee will be awarded up to, and in between $5,000 and $10,000 for Institute attendance per team of seven people and $10,000 for selection of up to five health science pathway components. Institute award will be contingent upon geographic location and funding for more than one component will be based on rationale and available funding.
