Flexible Categorical Program Funds (Deferred)

Prior to fiscal year 2008–09, funds for 38 categorical programs were restricted to specific purposes. Per EC Section 42605, these funds are now unrestricted. LEAs may use the funds to provide services under the pre-flexed programs or for other education purposes or programs. This profile addresses the 2 flexible categorical programs, School Safety and Violence Prevention and the Targeted Instructional Improvement Block Grant, which had a portion of the 2012-13 entitlement deferred to fiscal year 2013-14. Allocation Formula	From fiscal years 2008-09 through 2012-13, funding for the flexible programs was based on base year 2007-08 or 2008-09 funding levels as specified in Education Code Section 42605. In fiscal year 2012-13, each LEA was entitled to the same percentage of the available funding as it received in the base year. Funds for the School Safety and Violence Prevention Program and the Targeted Instructional Improvement Block Grant, that were deferred from 2012-13 to 2013-14 will be allocated in one payment.
