Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) funds support health education efforts aimed at the prevention and reduction of tobacco use. TUPE in grades six through twelve is funded through a competitive application process. Funds are awarded to local educational agencies that propose to replicate scientifically research-proven, effective programs.

Local educational agencies must be certified tobacco-free by July 1, 2008. Funding is available to districts, charter schools, consortium leads, and county offices of education that serve students in grades six through twelve. |

| Allocation Formula | Tier 1 grants will be awarded for a maximum of $12,000 for the full grant term. Tier 2 grants will be awarded for a minimum of $50,000 up to a maximum of $3 million for the full grant term. The maximum funding for the Tier 2 applications will vary according to the total 2007-08 second principal apportionment average daily attendance (a.d.a.) for the targeted grade levels at all participating schools within each district included in the application. Successful applicants will receive grants with four-year funding beginning July 1, 2009, and ending June 28, 2013. |
