Year 2015

April 21, 2015: State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson lauded the innovative science teaching taking place at Robert L. McCaffrey Middle School in the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District, one of eight school districts and two charter school associations that are participating in an early implementation program for the Next Generation Science Standards, and serving as models for the rest of the state. Year 2013

November 18, 2013: During the 2013 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Symposium in Sacramento, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson unveiled a new video developed with the help of the California Department of Education, The California Endowment, California Biotechnology Foundation, and Lybba entitled, I Am A Scientist [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tquPmplrofk] External link opens in new window or tab.. The video, created by Wondros, is designed to inspire youth about the benefits of STEM learning and promote career opportunities in the life science industry. The video also connects students with what STEM education can do for expanding career paths and improving community health. November 4, 2013: State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson named five outstanding educators as the 2014 California Teachers of the Year.

January 3, 2011: Thanking Californians for giving him the opportunity to serve, Tom Torlakson took his oath of office as California's 27th State Superintendent of Public Instruction in a simple ceremony attended by educators, students, and members of his family in the gymnasium of Mount Diablo High School in Concord, where he taught science and world history.
