The State of California has world-class education and training for individuals seeking a career in teaching.

California Colleges (Outside Source)
It isn’t easy to figure out which college to attend, how to pay for a college education, and what career to pursue. The California Colleges Web site provides information on these topics and even helps visitors apply online to the school of their choice. Future teachers can find colleges or universities in California that offer teacher preparation programs.

Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) (Outside Source)
The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AICCU) represents 77 private colleges and universities in California, most of whom offer teacher preparation programs.

University of California (UC) (Outside Source)
All nine of the University of California’s campuses offer teacher preparation programs, and each hosts California Teach (Outside Source), an initiative to encourage UC mathematics, science, and engineering students to consider a career in teaching.

California State University (CSU) (Outside Source)
The CSU system produces the largest number of teacher credential candidates in California. Teacher preparation programs (Outside Source) are offered at 22 of the 23 CSU campuses.

California Community Colleges (Outside Source)
The California Community College system is the largest system of higher education in the world. Many students start their higher education at a community college and then transfer to a college or university for their upper division coursework. Future teachers may want to participate in the Americorps Teacher Reading and Mathematics Development Partnership (Outside Source) in order to gain teaching experience and academic credit.
