Job Description

The Nutrition Education Administrator (NEA) is the supervisory level in the series over professionals at the consultant and assistant levels. Under direction, the Administrator plans, organizes, and directs the work of a program unit in planning, developing, administering, and evaluating nutrition and food service education and training programs for California child care, schools, and community-based programs. The NEA provides leadership in nutrition and food service education and training for California and other public agencies throughout the United States by developing policies, standards, and procedures for child nutrition programs administered by child care, schools, and community-based programs. Assignments include developing, disseminating, and promoting nutrition and food service education policies, curricular materials, and related documents; providing consultant services in the development, coordination, planning, and implementation of nutrition and food service education programs for students, teachers, parents, community groups, and related staff; preparing ongoing needs assessments; developing and providing resources to Local Education Agencies to integrate nutrition education program elements, preschool, and school age classroom curricular activities: providing education and consultation services for teachers, administrators, researchers, and others responsible for or engaged in nutrition and food service education; and establishing liaison with community agencies and parent groups to promote nutrition education. Persons in these classes do other related work.

Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire

The California civil service selection system is merit-based, and eligibility for appointment is established through a formal examination process. The Nutrition Education Administrator examination consists of a Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire (QAQ) that will be used to evaluate your experience, education, and training. The QAQ is the entire examination and will account for 100% of your score. Candidates will receive notification of their score by mail.

To apply for this examination, you must submit a complete application package which includes an Employment Application (STD. 678), the Qualifications Assessment Questionnaire with the Affirmation Statement, and evidence of completion of the education/credential requirement.
