Early Learning and Care Division

Subject: Correction to Changes in Law Affecting Child Care and Development Programs

Addendum

Number: 07-01a

Date: April 2007

Expires: Until Rescinded

Authority: Education Code Section 8499(b)

Attention: Executive Officers and Program Directors of All Child Care and Development Programs

Purpose

The purpose of this Management Bulletin (MB) is to correct information provided in MB 07-01 that transmitted changes in law affecting child care and development programs. Please attach this MB to all copies that you may have of MB 07-01.

Assembly Bill 1967, effective January 1, 2007, made technical amendments to California Education Code (EC) Section 8499(b). MB 07-01 incorrectly stated that “… the definition of child care was changed to thirteen instead of twelve to reflect the correct age eligibility ….”

The amendment to the definition of “child care” in EC Section 8499(b), including strike-out and underlining to show the amended text states, “… for all children up to and including 12 13 years of age, including children with exceptional special needs ….” The age eligibility in this definition is consistent with the definition of “child care” in EC Section 8208(i).

We regret any inconvenience this error may have caused. Please direct any questions you may have to your assigned Early Education and Support Division Field Services Consultant at http://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/cd/ci/assignments.asp.
