Special Education: Mental Health Services (State)


Funding Description

Funds are apportioned to Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) based on average daily attendance (ADA). They are used to support mental health services provided to special education students by SELPAs, in accordance with the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Other Eligibility Considerations Local educational agencies must have an approved SELPA local plan on file with the CDE.

Allocation Formula Funds are apportioned based on ADA reported for the Second Principal Apportionment (P-2). The initial apportionment of 50 percent of the appropriated funds is calculated based on 2016–17 P-2 statewide SELPA ADA of 5,958,952.75. An adjustment is made, consistent with existing law, for the Los Angeles Juvenile Court and Community School SELPA. A second apportionment of 25 percent of the appropriated funds, also based off of 2016–17 ADA, will be made in spring 2018. Funding will be adjusted to reflect the ADA reported for 2017–18 P-2 and the remaining funds will be apportioned in summer 2018.
