Special Education Mental Health Services (State)


Funding Description

Funds are apportioned to special education local plan areas (SELPAs) based on average daily attendance (ADA). They are used to support all mental health-related services to students with or without an individualized education program pursuant to the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and as described in the California Education Code sections 56363 and 56836.07.

Allocation Formula Funds are based on ADA reported for the 2019-20 Second Principal Apportionment. The first apportionment of 50 percent of the appropriated funds will be calculated and apportioned in fall 2021. The remaining 50 percent of funds will be calculated and paid through the Principal Apportionment. An adjustment is made, consistent with existing law, for the Los Angeles Juvenile Court and Community School SELPA.
