Funding Description

The WorkAbility I (WAI) Statewide Elementary School Connection Grant will provide a comprehensive secondary transition professional development for local educational agencies that will include, but not limited to tools resources for student and parent planning for secondary transition services, career exploration and planning, self-advocacy and independent living, student-centered planning, and coordination of pre-employment transition services with parents, family, and multiple agencies including the Family Empowerment Centers, for elementary school students in special education who are making the transition from elementary school to junior high school.

Required Eligibility Criteria These one-time grant funds are unspent WAI funds. Funds will be awarded to two WAI grantees in good standing who have the capacity to provide professional development, resources and tools, for local education agencies (LEAs) to build capacity to connect secondary transition programs to elementary school students and families sooner to better prepare them for college, career, and life success. Grantee was selected through a supplemental application based on their ability to develop high quality, evidence-based resources to support improvement in local educational agency systems and practices.
