Summer Food Service Program Mandatory Training

The California Department of Education (CDE) Nutrition Services Division is pleased to announce that registration for the 2024 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) annual Mandatory Training is now available.

Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, sections 225.7(a) and 225.15(d)(1), requires all participating sponsors to annually attend state agency training and to train all administrative staff and site staff before they undertake their responsibilities. This training requirement must be met by all SFSP sponsors.

The CDE will host two separate 2024 Mandatory Training sessions online through a live Zoom Webinar on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 20 from 10 am – 2:30 pm

  • Tuesday, April 9 from 10 am – 2:30 pm

Sponsors are required to designate a supervisory personnel staff member or authorized representative responsible for the food service to attend one of the sessions listed above to satisfy the annual mandatory training requirement. Sponsors are encouraged to have additional staff attend the mandatory training.

The CDE cannot issue approval of SFSP Sponsor Applications until this training requirement is met.

Registration and Cost

The mandatory training is free to attend. Register in advance here:

After registering, you will see a screen that says Webinar Registration Approved with a link to the webinar. You will also receive several emails with information about joining the webinar. First, you will receive confirmation the day you register and then you will receive two reminder emails: one day and one hour prior to the webinar. If you cannot find the email confirmation, or do not receive the reminders, you can always reregister.

Tip for Attendees

To save time before the meeting, check your system to make sure it is ready to use Zoom.

If you receive an error message that the host has declined your webinar registration, try using an alternate email address. While not ideal, you may also join by phone if you have technical issues logging in from your computer.

Reasonable Accommodation

Pursuant to state and federal statutes, individuals with a disability may request reasonable accommodation to attend or participate in the SFSP Mandatory Training. Send direct requests for reasonable accommodations to the CDE by email to sfsp@cde.ca.gov.

Please note that live captioning will be available during the webinar.
