Advisory Commission on Special Education Mental Health Subcommittee Ad-Hoc Workgroup

Members of the ACSE Mental Health Subcommittee Ad Hoc Workgroup will be meeting prior to the start of the ACSE meeting to discuss opportunities and challenges at the state level related to collaboration across systems to transform children's social, emotional, and behavioral health.

  • Per request by ACSE, review data collected by the California Department of Education (CDE)

  • Report from representatives on the recent High Needs Summit, including follow up activities related to supporting youth

  • Discussion regarding potential partnerships with local universities

  • Breaking Barriers discussion, including any relevant items for ACSE

  • Assembly Bill (AB) 2246 requires local educational agencies to have a policy on suicide prevention/intervention before the beginning of the 2017–18 school year. Discussion of emerging best practices. CDE guidance on the Mental Health Web page.

  • Discussion regarding potential partnerships with local universities

Item 3–Mental Health Subcommittee Ad Hoc Workgroup Report: Members of the ACSE Mental Health Subcommittee Ad Hoc Workgroup will report on the activities of the Workgroup, including potential outcomes or proposed action items from the meeting of June 21, 2017.   • ACSE Priority Review–In 2015, the ACSE identified priority areas for engagement. Commissioners will weigh in on those priorities and discuss changes as appropriate.

  • Legislative Review–Commissioners will review the status of the following legislation:

  • Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 52 (Jackson) Every Kid Health Week
