California State Preschool Program Expansion for Exceptional Needs Children

Funding Description

The intent of the Request for Application (RFA) is to increase the availability of part-day/part-year California State Preschool Program (CSPP) services to children with exceptional needs statewide. These funds are available to existing CSPP contracted agencies. This is the second round of this RFA. Agencies who applied in the first round are eligible to re-apply.


Eligible Applicants Institutions of higher education, local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations, other organizations or agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Agencies contracted with the California Department of Education (CDE) to operate a CSPP may apply for funding pursuant to this RFA. The applicant must be licensed in accordance with 22 CCR, Community Care Licensing, Division 12, or exempt from licensing pursuant to Health, and Safety Code Section 1596.792.
Other Eligibility Considerations If the facilities are exempt by statute or otherwise exempt from licensing, they must comply with the health and safety regulations as set forth in the aforementioned regulations. Service to children may not begin until the contractor submits to CDE a copy of their site license or provides verification of their license exempt status.

Allocation Formula Child Care and Development contracts are awarded through the Continued Funding application process. Reimbursements are provided to contractors in monthly apportionments.
