Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

Funding Description
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are academic tutoring services focused on English-language arts, mathematics and/or science and provided by entities approved by the State Board of Education to tutor students beyond the regular school day. The provider must have a two-year demonstrated record of effectiveness in increasing student academic proficiency. The provider works with designated local educational agencies with eligible students (Program Improvement schools and low-income families) in mathematics, science, and English-language arts. Parents select the SES provider.Eligibility

Required Eligibility Criteria | Prospective applicants must have a “demonstrated record of effectiveness in increasing the academic proficiency of students” as defined in Section 13075.1 (d) of the California Code of Regulations, Title 5 (5 CCR) for the supplemental educational services (SES) program. In addition, the applicants must meet the quality requirements specified in Section 13075.2 of the 5CCR, located on the SES Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/ti/supplemental.asp. |

Allocation Formula | SES providers will receive a per pupil amount based on an agreement established between the state-approved SES provider and the eligible LEA. The per-pupil amount is dependent on the final allocation to the LEA, the contract established between LEA and SES provider, and the successful completion of services requested by parents of eligible students from eligible schools. |
