Bilingual Teacher Professional Development

Funding Description

The purpose of the Bilingual Teacher Professional Development Program (BTPDP) is to provide professional learning opportunities to teams of eligible teachers, principals, and paraprofessionals for the purpose of increasing the number of teachers who obtain a bilingual authorization as a result of participation in the program and increase the number of teachers with a bilingual authorization who return to teaching in a bilingual or multilingual setting.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria The department shall allocate grant funding to eligible local educational agencies, including county offices of education, school districts, charter schools, or a consortia of local educational agencies. BTPDP applicants may partner with at least one school or department of education within a public or private non-profit four-year institution of higher education (IHE) that prepares teachers and is actively implementing a Commission on Teacher Credentialing Approved Bilingual Authorization program in good standing. Additional partners can include community colleges and professional organizations or nonprofit organizations with English learner expertise. All partners must be actively providing educational services within the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association region the application originates from.

Legal Authority Funding is authorized by Assembly Bill 99, Chapter 15 and Section 54. Article 5 (commencing with Section 52200) and added to Chapter 7 of Part 28 of Division 4 of Title 2 of the Education Code.
