Instructions and information regarding access to the Education Data Collection System (EDCS).Access to EDCS
Who Has Access to EDCS?
Access to the Education Data Collection System (EDCS) is granted to:
- California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) Local Educational Agency (LEA) Administrators
- LEA staff authorized by the CALPADS LEA Administrators
Use the Search LEA CALPADS Administrator directory if you need to identify your LEA’s CALPADS Administrator.
CALPADS LEA Administrators appointed on or before March 24, 2026 were automatically granted EDCS access. Existing EDCS passwords remain valid but may be reset if needed.
LEA staff who previously submitted State Seal of Civic Engagement (SSCE), Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), or Supplemental SUN Bucks Collection (SSBC) data will retain their EDCS access and passwords.
Requesting Access for Staff Who Are Not CALPADS LEA Administrators
To request access for additional staff, the CALPADS LEA Administrator may:
- Log in to EDCS and select the "Request Access for Staff" link, which opens a form that is submitted to California Department of Education (CDE) staff for processing. (Preferred Method)
- Email at: educationdatacollection@cde.ca.gov
Subject Line: ‘EDCS Access Request'
Include the following infomation:- First and Last Name
- Position
- Phone Number
- LEA Name
- CDS Code (this is necessary in order to grant appropriate LEA access)
Once access is granted, the LEA staff member will receive a confirmation email stating that their account has been established.
Requesting Access for New CALPADS LEA Administrators
CALPADS LEA Administrators appointed after March 24, 2026 must request EDCS access by emailing educationdatacollection@cde.ca.gov (using the same process as above).
Instructions for Accessing / Logging in to EDCS
To access the EDCS application to import data, the CALPADS LEA Administrator, or the staff person who has been granted access, must first create a password. Users can do this using the "Reset Password" link on the login page.
Logging in to EDCS
- Select the EDCS Login link to navigate to the EDCS login page.
- Enter your email address and EDCS password, then select Login.
- If you do not have a password, have forgotten it, or need to reset it, select the Reset Password link and follow the prompts.
Note: The Reset Password option is not available when the EDCS system is closed.
Resetting Your Password
- On the login page, select Reset Password.
- Enter your email address and select Submit.
If you have access to EDCS: You are the CALPADS LEA Administrator, or your CALPADS LEA Administrator has requested access for you.
- You will see a confirmation message: "An email has been sent to your email address. Please follow the instructions in your email.”
- Check your email and select the Reset Your Password link (or copy and paste the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) into your browser).
- Enter and confirm your new password, ensuring it meets the listed requirements.
- Select Submit.
- You will see a confirmation message: “Password reset complete.”
If you do NOT have access to EDCS:
- You will see the message: “Password reset failed.”
- Contact your CALPADS LEA Administrator to request access.
System Availability:
When the EDCS system is closed:
- Users cannot log in.
- The login page will display: “The Education Data Collection System is closed.”
After Logging In:
Once logged in successfully:
- You will be directed to the EDCS Programs page.
- Select a program to begin working in the system.
