Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting
Attn: Kevin Nash, President
13757 Cordary Ave.
Hawthorne, CA 90250

Dear Mr. Nash:

Subject: Apportionment to the Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting, Fiscal Year 2023–24

This apportionment, in the amount of $2,000,000, is made from the General Fund to the Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting, pursuant to Control Section 19.568(c)(16) added to the Budget Act of 2023 in Section 264 of Assembly Bill 102 (Chapter 38, Statutes of 2023) as amended by Control Section 19.568(c)(16) of Section 97 of Senate Bill (SB) 104 (Chapter 189, Statutes of 2023). The apportionment represents 100 percent of the funds available to the Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting in the fiscal year 2023–24.

The purpose is to provide one-time funding to the Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting program for facility renovation, media equipment, marketing, and outreach. The Accelerated Radio School of Broadcasting program builds mini radio stations on the campuses of elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the community. The program is designed to bridge the digital divide by providing under-served youth a head-start in the industries of broadcasting, multimedia, and podcasting.

Furthermore, pursuant to Control Section 19.568(a), funds shall be available for encumbrance through June 30, 2025, and expenditure until June 30, 2027. Funds may be used to pay for costs incurred prior to the enactment of SB 104.

Warrants will be mailed approximately three weeks from the date of this letter. This letter and the accompanying apportionment schedule are posted on the California Department of Education’s web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/specprogonetime23.asp.

If you have any questions regarding this apportionment, please contact the Categorical Allocations and Audit Resolution Office by email at CAAR@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Dearstyne, Director
