Dear County Superintendents of Schools:

Apportionment for the Classified School Employee Summer
Assistance Program for the 2024–25 School Year,
Fiscal Years 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25

This apportionment, in the amount of $107,002,384, is made from funds provided in Section 139 of Assembly Bill 181 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022); the Budget Act of 2023–24 as amended by Senate Bill (SB) 101 (Chapter 12, Statutes of 2023); and the Budget Act of 2024–25 as amended by SB 108 (Chapter 35, Statutes of 2024) in support of the Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program (CSESAP) for the 2024–25 school year.

The amount paid in this apportionment reflects 100 percent of the allocation calculated for each eligible county office of education and school district. Amounts are allocated to each eligible local educational agency (LEA) at a rate of eighty-one and nine tenths cents ($0.819) for each $1 dollar withheld from the monthly paychecks of participating classified school employees during the 2024–25 school year.

LEAs must pay their classified employees the amounts withheld from their monthly paychecks plus the CSESAP match funds expected from the state during the summer recess period. The summer recess payments are to be made in one or two payments in accordance with the employee's selected payment option. The summer recess period may vary for each LEA and is the period that regular class sessions are not being held by the LEA during the months of June, July, and August.

County superintendents of schools were notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email addresses. The California Department of Education (CDE) requested that the email be forwarded to the school districts in the county, and included a link to this letter and accompanying apportionment schedule posted on the CDE’s web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/csesap23result.asp.

Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately four weeks from the date of this letter. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 7415, Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program, and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue.

If you have any questions regarding this payment, please contact the Categorical Allocations and Audit Resolutions Office, by email at CSESAP@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

John Miles, Interim Director
School Fiscal Services Division
