Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Notice Regarding Potential Federal Shutdown

The California Department of Education (CDE) has received questions regarding the potential impact of a federal shutdown. While the CDE is currently evaluating any such impact, we do not anticipate any immediate disruption to CDE operations or funding for critical local educational agency programs due to a potential federal government shutdown.

In the case of a federal government shutdown, all local educational agencies will receive a Fiscal Management Advisory.

We continue to encourage all students, educators, and school staff to remain focused on the important work of moving the needle for student achievement across California.

We will continue to keep the field apprised of the CDE’s responses to federal actions. An ongoing list of CDE’s 2025 responses to federal actions is maintained on this web page: https://www.cde.ca.gov/nr/fa/.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the education of all students in the State of California.

Sincerely,

Ingrid Roberson
Chief Deputy Superintendent
California Department of Education

David Schapira
Chief Deputy Superintendent
Chief of Staff
