State Superintendent Tony Thurmond Celebrates South Monterey County School District’s Exit from State Receivership
KING CITY—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond joined Monterey County education leaders, students, and community members this week to celebrate the South Monterey County Joint Union High School District’s successful exit from state receivership following years of work to restore fiscal stability and repay its emergency state loan.
“This is an important milestone for the South Monterey County Joint Union High School District. Through years of hard work and responsible fiscal management, the district has restored its financial stability and is continuing to serve our students,” Superintendent Thurmond said. “I commend everyone who helped make this achievement possible and look forward to the district’s continued success.”
The district’s long-term recovery was a culmination of efforts by district and county leaders, educators, and the community. With the emergency loan repaid and state oversight ending, the district can move forward with greater financial flexibility and continue focusing its resources on students, educators, and long-term stability.# # # #
