Subject:  American Indian Education Center Survey
Presenter: Niki Sandoval, Education Director, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians

Results of the recent American Indian Education Survey will be presented and discussed.

Item 3

Subject: Public Comment

Public Comment is invited on any matter not included on the printed agenda. Depending on the number of individuals wishing to address the American Indian Education Oversight Committee (AIEOC), the presiding officer may establish specific time limits on presentations.

Item 4

Subject: AIEOC 2014 Agenda Items
Presenter: AIEOC

The AIEOC will take the Public Hearing comments made at the March 18, 2013, Public Hearing and prioritize them as agenda items for 2014.

Item 5

Subject: Celebrating American Indian and Alaska Native Month November 2013
Presenter: Judy Delgado, American Indian Education Consultant, CDE

Plans for a display in the CDE Lobby and other events will be discussed.

Item 6

Subject: AIEOC Report
Presenter: André Cramblit, Parliamentarian, AIEOC

This report will include information on the achievements of the AIEOC as well as discussion of the academic status of American Indian students in California.

Item 7

Subject: Committee Business

Including, but not limited to, future meeting plans; future agenda items; officer nominations and/or elections; declaratory and commendatory resolutions; bylaw review and revision; Board policy; approval of minutes; Board liaison reports; training of Board members; and announcement of matters of general interest.

Statute for American Indian Education Oversight Committee

California Education Code Section 33370(g) states:

The Superintendent, with input from existing center directors, shall appoint an American Indian Education Oversight Committee by January 30, 2007, composed of at least seven educators, four of whom shall be American Indian education center directors. All members shall possess proven knowledge of current educational policies relating to, and issues faced by, American Indian communities in California. This committee shall provide input and advice to the Superintendent on all aspects of American Indian education programs established by the state.

The AIEOC will commence, recess, and reconvene as necessary throughout the meeting. Time is set aside for individuals to speak on any topic not otherwise on the agenda. In all cases, the presiding officer reserves the right to impose time limits on presentations as necessary to ensure that the agenda is completed.
