Funding Description

The Special Education Assembly Bill (AB) 602 Program provides funding to special education local plan areas (SELPAs) based on the SELPA members funded average daily attendance (ADA) and other data components.

Allocation Formula The AB 602 funding model provides funding to the SELPAs based on the SELPA members funded ADA and rate per unit of ADA. The cost-of-living adjustment provided for this fiscal year is 2.30 percent. The Out-of-Home Care (OHC) and Extraordinary Cost Pool (ECP) Program are both components of the AB 602 funding model. Refer to the OHC and ECP funding profiles for more information.

Other Funds are paid through the Principal Apportionment. Principal Apportionment amounts are calculated three times for each fiscal year: the First Principal Apportionment (P-1) is certified by February 20th, the Second Principal Apportionment (P-2) is certified by June 25th and the Annual calculation is certified by February 20th of the following year (with that year's P-1 certification).
