Dear County Superintendents of Schools:

Apportionment for the Classified School Employee Summer
Assistance Program for the 2022–23 School Year
Fiscal Years 2020–21, 2021–22, & 2022–23

This apportionment, in the amount of $81,359,930, is made from funds provided in Section 122 of Senate Bill 98 (Chapter 24, Statutes of 2020), Section 140 of Assembly Bill (AB) 130 (Chapter 44, Statutes of 2021), and Section 139 of AB 181 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022), in support of the Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program (CSESAP) for the 2022–23 school year.

The amount paid in this apportionment reflects 100 percent of the allocation calculated for each eligible county office of education and school district. Amounts are allocated to each eligible local educational agency (LEA) at a rate of $1 dollar for each $1 dollar withheld from the monthly paychecks of participating classified school employees during the 2022–23 school year.

LEAs must pay their classified employees the amounts withheld from their monthly paychecks plus the CSESAP match funds expected from the state during the summer recess period. The summer recess payments are to be made in one or two payments in accordance with the employee's selected payment option. The summer recess period may vary for each LEA and is the period that regular class sessions are not being held by the LEA during the months of June, July, and August.

County superintendents of schools were notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email addresses. The California Department of Education (CDE) requested that the email be forwarded to the school districts in the county, and included a link to this letter and accompanying apportionment schedule posted on the CDE’s web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/csesap21result.asp.

Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately four weeks from the date of this letter. For standardized account code structure coding, use Resource Code 7415, Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program, and Revenue Object Code 8590, All Other State Revenue.

If you have any questions regarding this payment, please contact the Categorical Allocations and Audit Resolutions Office, by email at csesap@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Dearstyne, Director
School Fiscal Services Division
