Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and Principals:

2020 Innovating for Equity Summit

This is a final reminder that registration is closing soon for the California Department of Education’s first Innovating for Equity Summit on February 11–12, 2020, in Anaheim. The Summit will focus on best practices related to effective programs, student achievement, and accountability systems for all students.

As part of a combined effort with the Federal Programs, Special Education, and System of Support offices, the Summit will provide technical assistance and professional development on federal programs under the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, including Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title IV. The Summit replaces the former Title I Conference and the Accountability Leadership Institute for English Learner, Immigrant, and Migratory Student programs.

This year’s keynote speakers include Dr. Victor Rios, Associate Dean of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and creator of Project GRIT (Generating Resilience to Inspire Transformation); Dr. Jaguanana (Jag) Lathan, Executive Director of Equity at the San Diego County Office of Education and a two-time fellow with the National Equity Project; Carla Tantillo Philibert, Founder of Mindful Practices, an organization that offers innovative social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and yoga programs to over 200 schools across the country; and Michael Matsuda, Superintendent of the Anaheim Union High School District and a nationally recognized 21st century educational leader known for innovation and compassion.

For additional information and to register, please visit the Innovating for Equity Summit web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/el/t3/equitysummit.asp [Note: The Summit link is no longer available. The event is in the past]. The deadline to register is January 30, 2020. If you have any registration questions, please contact Jennifer Cordova, Multilingual Support Division, at jcordova@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
