Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Get Connected! California/Affordable Connectivity Program

As schools open up, all school districts and county offices of education are invited to participate in the Get Connected! Initiative. Get Connected! promotes the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides a monthly discount of up to $30 off home internet to qualifying families of prekindergarten to adult students.

Saturday, August 27 is the first Get Connected! Day in California. Schools are invited to host enrollment events throughout the state. These enrollment events will support eligible families interested in applying for the ACP; answer questions about the ACP benefit; and provide hands-on assistance with the application. Families will be encouraged to bring the required documents to apply.

A toolkit, which can be found on the California Emerging Technology Fund Dropbox web page at https://www.cetfund.org , has been developed for schools to use going forward. The toolkit includes:

  • Messaging
  • Applications (in multiple languages) to distribute via paper or electronic means
  • Eligibility Verification Template

To participate in an enrollment event and share how you can contribute to a successful Get Connected! month and day, please visit the Get Connected California! Sign Up Google document at https://forms.gle/k6YiHeH8Suwhvxy97 (Note: Sign Up is no longer accepting new enrollees). For more information on ACP, please visit the Internet for All Now Sign Up for ACP Today web page at https://www.internetforallnow.org/applytoday.

If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Geoff Belleau, Education Administrator, Office of the Deputy Superintendent, Information and Technology Branch, at gbelleau@cde.ca.gov or at 916-319-0847.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
