Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and School Principals:

Tenth Annual California STEAM Symposium

The California Department of Education (CDE) is excited to announce that the Tenth Annual California STEAM Symposium (at https://cdefoundation.org/cde_programs/steam/) will be held in-person at the Anaheim Convention Center on the weekend of October 1–2, 2022. The event brings together thousands of passionate students, educators, curriculum administrators, professionals, and nonprofit and corporate partners seeking inspiration and energizing engagements for the opportunity to collaborate with STEAM education experts to expand STEAM learning opportunities for everyone in California and beyond.

This year’s Symposium is grounded in principles for advancing equity of traditionally marginalized students and communities, with a focus on Access, Awareness, Opportunities, and Outcomes. Throughout the event, educators and STEAM enthusiasts will come together to participate in more than 150 breakout sessions, share ideas, and grow their STEAM mindsets. There will be opportunities to learn high-quality strategies to cultivate systems that promote lifelong learning through inclusive practices, high-impact techniques, and policies. These approaches promote a sense of belonging and ignite student passion for learning as well as support the social-emotional development of our education community.

Our keynote speakers will provoke new ideas and inspire:

  • Jason Latimer: World-renowned magician and creator of Impossible Science
  • Johann Hari: Author of Stolen Focus, best-selling science book of 2022
  • Kai Kight: Violinist and innovative composer who uses music as a metaphor
  • Additional keynote speakers and special guests will be announced

We are excited to come together in our amazing 5,000-square-foot Makerspace that is designed for hands-on learning experiences. Students are the focus of the Symposium, and they will be leading breakout sessions and demonstrating their projects in the always-popular Student Showcase.

California STEAM Symposium: Saturday and Sunday, October 1–2, 2022

Location: Anaheim Convention Center North

Co-Hosts: CDE, California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, and Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation
