Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Fall Digital Citizenship Week: October 13 to October 24, 2025

In collaboration with the International Society for Technology in Education, Common Sense Education, the California State Libraries, Edutopia, and #ICANHELP, the California Department of Education (CDE) will celebrate Fall Digital Citizenship Week from October 13 to October 24, 2025. California focuses on Digital Citizenship each October to emphasize the importance of ongoing discussions of the topic. Participants will focus on the 21st century skills California students need to succeed in school and in life.

Fall Digital Citizenship Week 2025 is aligned with five Digital Citizenship Competencies: Balanced, Informed, Inclusive, Engaged, and Alert. These resources are tailored for specific grade bands, all of which have been reviewed and adapted by teachers here in California. There are lessons in the following grade level strands: K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. All can be accessed through the California Educators Together Digital Literacy/Citizenship Week Hub at https://www.caeducatorstogether.org/ (account required). For more classroom and family resources, please visit the CDE Digital Citizenship web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/et/dc/index.asp.

If you have any questions, please contact Kristina Mattis, Education Program Consultant, Information and Technology Branch, at kmattis@cde.ca.gov, or Geoff Belleau, Education Administrator, Information and Technology Branch, at gbelleau@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
