State Superintendent Tony Thurmond Assists in Negotiations for Teachers' Strike at Oakland Unified

SACRAMENTO—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond is in Oakland today to assist in the conversation between Oakland Unified School District and the Oakland Education Association. Thurmond has been in communication with officials from both sides of the bargaining table.  

“We want to get the strike resolved quickly so teachers and students can be where they want to be—in their classes,” Thurmond said. “We met with leaders in Oakland last week and have been in contact since then. The talks continue today. My top priority is keeping them at the table to get this resolved.”
