Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and School Principals:

School Safety Webinar Series

To support education leaders in creating safe and supportive learning environments, I am hosting a series of webinars covering a range of school safety topics. Please join the California Department of Education (CDE) and me for the first webinar in this series, Creating Safer Schools, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 10 a.m.

This webinar will feature experts from Sandy Hook Promise who will share their proven programs and strategies to create safer schools. Students and administrators from Turlock Unified School District will share their perspectives on implementing evidence-based school safety programs. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from companies that offer gun detection technology. The CDE will also offer additional other school safety resources to safeguard students and staff.

Please register for the Creating Safer Schools webinar via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_fxZX3OtwRuu8zeo-5zfykQ#/registration [NOTE: this event has passed]. You will also be able to view a livestream of the event on the CDE Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CAEducation.

If you have any questions or want to share best practices, please email the CDE School Health and Safety Office at SHSO@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
