Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:

Computer Science Education Week (December 8–14, 2025)

The increasing prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) and other computing technologies underscores the importance of providing access to computer science education for our students. The week of December 8–14, 2025, is recognized as Computer Science Education Week (#CSEdWeek). All educators can engage students in computer science.

Multiple options are available for bringing computer science to learners. Activities for varying levels of technological proficiency, including beginners, are available on the CSforALL Hour of AI web page at https://csforall.org/en-US/hour-of-ai. Educators are encouraged to visit the CS Ed Week website at https://www.csedweek.org/ and the AI for CA web page at https://sites.google.com/view/aiforca/home for resources and activities celebrating diversity in computer science.

Computer science education can help bridge the digital use divide and prepare students for the world of today and tomorrow. Computer science education fosters critical thinking, ethical considerations, and empowers students to navigate the digital landscape with confidence.

California has made significant investments in computer science education over the past few years. Open educational resources for teaching computer science are available thanks to the Educator Workforce Investment Grant for Computer Science on the California Educators Together Platform via the Seasons of CS group at bit.ly/SeasonsOfCSCaET. Cross-content, interdisciplinary lesson ideas are available thanks to the Cal-MSCS (Math, Science, Computer Science) grant at bit.ly/CSCrossContentConnections. We invite you to visit these web pages for high-quality instructional resources for computer science.

Join us in supporting #CSEdWeek not only this week but every day!

Sincerely,

Tony Thurmond
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
