The Special EDge Newsletter

This page hosts The Special EDge newsletter, published three times a year by the California Department of Education, and highlights information, changes, and achievements in Special Education for the State of California.

Published two times a year, The Special EDge has brought attention to prevalent and emerging topics in special education since 1997. The most recent edition, the Fall 2026 issue, highlights how inclusive college programs across California are creating new pathways for students with disabilities to pursue higher education, independence, employment, and community participation. It also explores the role of high expectations, rigorous instruction, diploma access, and student-centered transition planning in helping students achieve their postsecondary goals.

New and archived issues of The Special EDge can be found at the Supporting Innovative Practices Project newsletters web page External link opens in new window or tab..
