Reading Instruction and Intervention Grant

Funding Description

The grantee(s) will generate and disseminate professional learning (PL) opportunities for educators, including teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals, serving kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12) students across the state. Grantee(s) will provide PL in the areas of evidence-based literacy, intensive literacy interventions, and executive functioning skills. PL must align with state guidance and policies and support the literacy needs of diverse learners, including English learner students, students with disabilities, and students with dyslexia.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Local educational agencies (LEAS) serving students in grades K-12 are eligible to apply for the Reading Instruction and Intervention (RII) grant. Through the competitive application process, the successful applicant will demonstrate expertise in the areas of developing and providing PL to educators in public schools to strengthen reading instruction for all pupils in a manner that aligns with the Statewide System of Support.
Other Eligibility Considerations The California Department of Education (CDE) shall give positive consideration to applicants that propose partnerships with an institution of higher education, a nonprofit organization, or a consortium of institutes of higher education and nonprofit organizations.

Allocation Formula The CDE shall issue the sum of $9,800,000, based upon merit, to one LEA to act as the Lead Agency. The CDE shall issue the sum of $200,000 to the CCEE for evaluation purposes.
