Funding Description

Funding is allocated to local educational agencies that administer literacy screenings to pupils in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 for risk of reading difficulties using approved screening instruments, pursuant to California Education Code (EC) Section 53008.

Eligible Applicants Local educational agencies
Required Eligibility Criteria Only county offices of education, school districts, and charter schools serving pupils in kindergarten and grades 1 and 2, excluding transitional kindergarten, are eligible to receive funds.

Allocation Formula Funds are allocated on a per-pupil basis using 2024-25 enrollment data for kindergarten and grades 1 and 2, as reported in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) Fall 1 Certification for each eligible local education agency.
