Dear County Superintendents of Schools:

Second Apportionment for
Comprehensive Support and Improvement
Local Educational Agency
Every Student Succeeds Act
Fiscal Year 2021–22

This apportionment, in the amount of $1,343,002, is made from federal funds provided to the state under Title I, Part A, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (Public Law 114‒95). Section 1003 of the ESSA provides grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) to serve schools implementing comprehensive support and improvement (CSI) activities. Access additional information relating to the apportionment of CSI funds to LEAs for fiscal year 2021–22 at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/csilea21apptoverview.asp. Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately three weeks from the date of this letter.

Information about the program, allocation and apportionments, grant award identification, applicable federal rules and regulations, and the grant award period are posted on the California Department of Education (CDE) Funding Results page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/csilea21result.asp.

Only those LEAs that reported expenditures in the Grant Management and Reporting Tool for the performance period March 14, 2022, to June 30, 2022, are included in this apportionment. Apportionments for each grant performance period are based on cumulative expenditures less prior cumulative payments, not to exceed each LEAs allocation.

County superintendents were notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email addresses. The CDE requests that the email be forwarded to all school districts and charter schools in the county that met the criteria for CSI. Links to this letter and the accompanying schedule of apportionment are posted on the CDE web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/.

If you have any program related questions regarding CSI, please contact the School Improvement and Support Office by phone at 916-319-0833 or by email at SISO@cde.ca.gov. Additional program information is located on the CDE CSI web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/sw/t1/csi.asp. For questions concerning this apportionment or the CSI LEA subgrant allocation amounts, please contact the Categorical Allocations and Audit Resolution Office by email at CAAR@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Dearstyne, Director
School Fiscal Services Division
