Dear Ms. Kessler and Ms. Rose:

Apportionment for the
Special Olympics of Northern and Southern California
Fiscal Year 2022–23

This apportionment, in the amount of $30,000,000, is made from the General Fund to the Special Olympics of Northern California and the Special Olympics of Southern California pursuant to Section 131 of Assembly Bill 181 (Chapter 52, Statutes of 2022). Funding is provided for the purposes of supporting the Unified Champion Schools Program, the Healthy Athletes Program, the Community Sports Program, and for general operating expenses. It is the intent of the Legislature that the Special Olympics of Northern and Southern California expend or encumber approximately ten million dollars ($10,000,000) of the funds appropriated in each of fiscal years 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25. Funds are available for encumbrance until June 30, 2026.

This apportionment represents an equal distribution of the funds between the two organizations and reflects 100 percent of funds appropriated in fiscal year 2022–23. Warrants will be mailed approximately three weeks from the date of this letter. A link to this letter and the accompanying apportionment schedule are posted on the California Department of Education’s Special Olympics web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/specialolympics.asp.

If you have any questions regarding this apportionment, please contact the Categorical Allocations and Audit Resolution Office by email at CAAR@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Dearstyne, Director
