Dear County Superintendents of Schools:

Fifth Apportionment for Title I, Part A, Improving
Basic Programs Operated by Local Educational Agencies,
Every Student Succeeds Act,
Fiscal Year 2023–24

This apportionment, in the amount of $461,926,911, is made from federal funds provided to the state under Title I, Part A, Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Educational Agencies, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (Public Law 114–95). Title I, Part A funds are apportioned to local educational agencies (LEAs) to provide supplementary academic support and educational services to students who are failing or most at-risk of failing to meet the state standards in core academic subjects. Warrants will be mailed to each county treasurer approximately three weeks from the date of this letter.

Information about the program, allocation and apportionments, grant award identification, applicable federal rules and regulations, and the grant award period are posted on the California Department of Education (CDE) Funding Results page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r14/title1pa23result.asp.

This apportionment provides payments to LEAs that reported their cash balance for the program in July 2024, via the Cash Management Data Collection system and met other program requirements.

County superintendents were notified of this apportionment by email sent to their CDEfisc email addresses. The CDE requested that the email be forwarded to all school districts and charter schools in the county, and included the links to this letter and the accompanying apportionment schedule posted on the CDE web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/.
