Dear Migrant Education Program Directors and Assistant Superintendents:

Migrant Education Program 2026–27 Grant Application

The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce the Migrant Education Program (MEP) Grant Application for the fiscal year 2026–27. Information about MEP program application is available on the CDE Migrant Education Program Request for Applications web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/fg/fo/r28/migrant26rfa.asp.

The purpose of the application is to obtain a comprehensive description of proposed supplementary MEP services and programs for migratory children and families. Funding is contingent upon the allocation of the federal Title I, Part C grant, and is determined using approved CDE funding factors.

The CDE is responsible for ensuring MEP funds are awarded to local educational agencies (LEAs) and are used by LEAs in accordance with all applicable statutory requirements.

Direct-funded district applications are due to the CDE no later than April 10, 2026, and the regional applications are due no later than May 8, 2026.

If you have any questions regarding the MEP grant application process, please contact Teresa Palomino, Education Programs Consultant, Migrant Education Office, by phone at 916-319-0678 or by email at tpalomino@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

/s/
