The California Department of Education’s Make the Switch: Become a Teacher campaign, profiles professionals who have left non-education careers to become teachers. Christopher Shining, a teacher at William Howard Taft Charter High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District used to work in the sailing industry and also coached sailing and ski teams. He entered the teaching profession over four years ago.
