Dear County and District Superintendents and Charter School Administrators:
Recruiting Members for the Classified Employee Staffing Ratio Workgroup
The California Department of Education (CDE) is pleased to announce that it is recruiting members for the Classified Employee Staffing Ratio Workgroup. This workgroup will be responsible for providing recommendations for grouping classified assignments in a manner that reflects the environmental setting of the assignment, the type of work to be completed, the impact on the assignment made by enrollment at a school site, specialized needs, including certifications or licenses, and other reasonable factors. Additionally, the workgroup will be asked to recommend staffing ratios for each identified classified staffing group with the number of pupils at a school site. These recommendations will be provided to the Legislature in the winter of 2025.
Pursuant to California Education Code Section 45118(a)(1), the CDE will convene this workgroup. The workgroup will include between 15 and 20 members, who will be selected to ensure balanced representation of regions, school types, and organizations.
Interested individuals are encouraged to apply and to distribute the application to other potential applicants. Please note that there is no stipend for service on a workgroup, and no reimbursements for travel costs or substitute replacements can be provided by the CDE.
Workgroup meetings are currently planned for the following dates and will be virtual:
- October 22, 2024: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- February 18, 2025: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- April 22, 2025: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Each workgroup meeting will be held in the late afternoon. A more detailed agenda will be sent to participants prior to each meeting. Information can be found on the CDE Classified Employee Staffing Ratio Workgroup web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/pl/cesrw.asp.
To apply to be a member of this workgroup, please use the Classified Employee Staffing Ratio Workgroup online application available at https://surveys3.cde.ca.gov/s.asp?k=171744125792. Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on September 3, 2024.
