Dear County and District Superintendents, Charter School Administrators, and School Principals:

Summer Reading Safari Adventure Experience

Summer reading is a powerful way to keep learning alive—helping students maintain their academic momentum, spark curiosity, and build a lifelong love of reading through fun, enriching experiences.

The California Department of Education (CDE) and I are excited to announce we have arranged for Capstone to provide a free, interactive summer reading experience designed to keep students reading, exploring, and engaged all summer long, and we want to connect your school communities to this great opportunity for summer learning!

What’s Included?

From July 14 through August 31, students and families can get access to:

  • Weekly reading missions focused on animals, nature, and habitats
  • Over 3,000 nonfiction articles and 6,000 eBooks
  • Fun digital materials like printable journals, badges, and posters
  • Weekly giveaway winners
  • A Certificate of Participation for every student
  • End-of-summer prize opportunities—including a pizza party, virtual author visit, and more!
How You Can Participate and Access

If your local educational agency or any partner organizations serving your students are interested, please reach out to the CDE Statewide Literacy Office at statewideliteracycampaign@cde.ca.gov to let us know.
