The California Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education Workgroup, established under SB 1288 (2024), brings together educators, students, experts, and educational partners to develop guidance and model policy for the safe, equitable, and effective use of AI in schools.
Convened by the California Department of Education, the California AI in Education Workgroup includes educators, students, administrators, classified staff, higher education representatives, and industry experts. Members will meet publicly three times between August 2025 and February 2026 to develop statewide guidance and a model policy addressing topics such as data privacy, academic integrity, professional development, equitable access, and effective classroom integration. All meetings are subject to the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act and will be accessible in hybrid format for both in-person and virtual participation.
