File Structure: Assignment Codes 2012–13

File structure for the assignment code file for 2012–13 to current.

File: StaffAssignmentCodes12On.txt

This file contains the assignment code and assignment code name for each teaching assignment, administrative assignment, and pupil service assignment. This file is used to reference and match assignment codes to the Staff Assignment and Course Data files.

Note: A staff person may have more than one assignment.

Field Name	Field Type	Width	Description
AssignmentCode	Character	4	This is a 4-digit code from the assignment code list that identifies a course taught or other assignment for certificated staff (teachers, administrators and pupil services staff).
AssignmentName	Character	47	This is the name of a course taught or other assignment for teachers. Complete definitions of these assignments are available in the CALPADS Code Sets document, which is located on the CALPADS System Documentation Web page.
AssignmentType	Character	1	This field indicates the type of certificated staff. The field is coded as follows: T = Teacher A = Administrator P = Pupil Services
AssignmentSubject	Character	50	This is the subject of the assignment. Administration Agriculture and Natural Resources Art Arts, Media, and Entertainment Building and Construction Trades Business and Finance Computer Education Dance Drama/Theater Education, Child Development, and Family Services Energy and Utilities Engineering and Architecture English Language Arts Fashion and Interior Design Foreign Languages Health Science and Medical Technology History/Social Science Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Information and Communication Technologies Manufacturing and Product Development Marketing, Sales, and Service Mathematics Music Other Instruction-Related Assignments Physical Education Public Services Science Self-Contained Class Special Designated Subjects Transportation
AP Course	Character	1	This code indicates if the class is designated Advanced Placement (AP) coded as: Y=Yes N=No
IB Course	Character	1	This code indicates if the class is designated as an International Baccalaureate (IB) class and is coded as: Y=Yes N=No
CTE Course	Character	1	This code indicates if the class is designated as an Career Technical Education (CTE) class and is coded as: Y=Yes N=No
MeetsUC/CSU Requirements	Character	1	Indicates whether the course is eligible to be designated as meeting the UC/CSU requirements for admission. Y = always or almost always approved as UC "a-g" course N = cannot be approved as UC "a-g" course U = sometimes approved as UC "a-g" course Blank = not a teaching assignment
EffectiveStartDate	Character	4	This is the first year in which the assignment code was used.
EffectiveEndDate	Character	4	This is the final year in which the assignment code was used. This field will be unpopulated if the assignment code is still in use.
