County Oversight: Valenzuela Case Settlement
Funding Description
Funding is available to county offices of education (COEs) for oversight purposes as part of the Valenzuela v. O'Connell (Valenzuela) case settlement. For local educational agencies (LEAs) participating in the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) Intensive Instruction and Services program, COEs are to verify that eligible pupils who have not passed the CAHSEE by the end of grade 12 are informed that they are entitled to receive intensive instruction and services for up to two consecutive academic years after completion of grade 12 or until the pupil has passed both parts of the exam. In addition, COEs are to verify that pupils who have elected to receive CAHSEE intensive instruction and services are being served.Eligibility

Allocation Formula |
COEs with LEAs participating in the CAHSEE Intensive Instruction and Services program will receive a minimum of $2,000 per county, with the remaining funding allocated on a per pupil rate based on the total number of 11th and 12th grade eligible pupil counts in the classes of 2010 and 2009, respectively, from LEAs within the county that are recipients of the CAHSEE Intensive Instruction and Services. Eligible pupils are determined by using data provided by LEAs to the California Department of Education (CDE) via an online form. The data includes the number of grade twelve students in the Class of 2009 and the number of grade eleven students in the Class of 2010 who have not yet passed one or both parts of CAHSEE. |
