Funding Description
Funding for county offices of education, school districts, and charter schools to supplement existing recipient funding, pursuant to California
Education Code (
EC) sections 53008.5, 53008.7, and 53009. Funds are to be used to develop and sustain school literacy programs, including English language development and dual language immersion programs, and other programs for multilingual learners.

| Required Eligibility Criteria |
Only school sites that received Literacy Coaches and Reading Specialists Grant Program funds in fiscal year 2022-23, 2023-24, or 2025-26 are eligible to receive funds in fiscal year 2026-27. School sites that ceased operation by July 1, 2026, will not receive additional funding. |
| Other Eligibility Considerations |
Local educational agencies (LEAs) have a deadline of September 30, 2026, to opt out of the program for one or more eligible school sites. Participating LEAs are required to submit a final report by June 30, 2031, to the California Department of Education (CDE) on how funds were used. The existing report template is available for LEAs on the CDE web page. |
