Dear Select County Superintendents of Schools, Auditors, and Treasurers:

NOTICE OF SPECIAL APPORTIONMENT FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS NEW
GRADE LEVEL EXPANSION FISCAL YEAR 2009-10

This special apportionment, in the amount of $12,705,447, is made in accordance with California Education Code (EC) Section 47652 for fiscal year 2009-10. The purpose of this apportionment is to fund continuing charter schools that are adding at least one new grade level. These funds are, in effect, an advance apportionment.

The charter school amount to be received in this September apportionment is $10,517,102 for the months of July 2009 through November 2009 and equals 37 percent of the charter school’s projected total general-purpose state aid funding and the categorical state aid funding for the expanded grade levels for the 2009-10 fiscal year. Also included is $2,188,345 to school districts that transfer to charter schools funding in lieu of property taxes (EC Section 47635) for the months of August 2009 through November 2009, which equals 28 percent of the charter school’s projected total funds in lieu of property taxes for the expanded grade levels for the 2009-10 fiscal year. This special apportionment is based on the charter school’s estimated current year second principal apportionment average daily attendance.

The warrants should be mailed by the State Controller’s Office to the County Treasurer within three weeks from the date of this letter. The County Treasurer of each county is requested to immediately deposit the amount received into the appropriate fund or account of the local educational agency at the direction of the County Superintendent of Schools.
